A Beginner's Guide To Working With EmilyDrums.com

(or any remote recording/online musician)

If you're a little unsure of how remote recording works, or what to expect, then please read through this handy guide.

Step 1: Prepping Your Files

Working with a remote musician can be a little daunting, especially if you're not 100% sure what you need to prepare for the session. Here's a checklist of basic skills needed, and what to prepare to make the session as easy, smooth and successful as possible:

Skills Needed

  • Basic knowledge of a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) i.e Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton, Reaper
  • Knowledge of what sample rate you are working at. i.e 44.1kHz, 48kHz etc
  • Ability to record to a click/metronome and know what BPM (Beats Per Minute) you have recorded at
  • Ability to 'export' or 'bounce' audio files

What To Prepare

Before preparing anything, please make sure you are bouncing/exporting from the same start/end point for each track stated below

  • An mp3 or wav bounce of your guide track for me to record to (any guide drums or clicks must be muted)
  • An mp3 or wav bounce of any guide drums soloed (optional)
  • An mp3 or wav bounce of your click track soloed (optional)

How To Prepare Your Files

To make things as easy as possible, please name each file in the following way

  • Create a folder with the following format as it's name: 'Your Name - Song Name - BPM - Sample Rate'
  • Name your guide track file as 'Your Name - Song Name GUIDE - BPM - Sample Rate'
  • Name your guide drums track file (if applicable) as 'Your Name - Song Name DRUMS - BPM - Sample Rate'
  • Name your click track file (if applicable) as 'Your Name - Song Name CLICK - BPM - Sample Rate'
  • Put your file(s) into the folder, and upload to a File Sharing Site such as DropBox, Google Drive or WeTransfer

Example of folder/file naming:

FOLDER NAME : Emily Dolan Davies - My Awesome Song - 69BPM - 44.1

GUIDE TRACK NAME : Emily Dolan Davies - My Awesome Song GUIDE - 69BPM - 44.1.wav

GUIDE DRUMS NAME : Emily Dolan Davies - My Awesome Song DRUMS - 69BPM - 44.1.wav

CLICK TRACK NAME : Emily Dolan Davies - My Awesome Song CLICK - 69BPM - 44.1.wav

Step 2: Booking Your Track

Now you're ready for the fun stuff (for me at least!)! Booking into my diary!

What To Prepare

  • A download link to your files
  • Any notes you have on how you would like the drums to sound. These can be links (i.e YouTube) or files (to be put into your uploaded folder from the last section). Equally you can just say 'do what you want!' if you'd rather leave it to me
  • Any social media accounts you'd like me to tag

How To Book In

Go to www.EmilyDrums.com/book to book into my diary to record for you

  • Choose a date and time to book in
  • Fill out the following form - it should be quite self explanatory, but I've added some scribblings!

Step 3: What To Expect

Sit back relax, and wait for me to record some drums for you. Depending on what service you booked in for, determines what you should expect back:

Demo (Free)

  • A 48 hour turnaround from your booked date
  • An mp3 bounce of your guide track with my drums bounced to hear the parts* (Download Sample Here)
  • A download link to some demo stems (a short snippet faded in and out) so you can hear how each recorded multi-track of the drums sounds* (Download Sample Here)
  • No revisions


Please Note

  • ​​​​​* These are not the final files and cannot be used in your project.
  • If you'd like to proceed from this point with revisions and/or receiving the full length/resolution stems, then just let me know, and I'd be happy to give you revisions and/or a final invoice of £200 to receive your final files to download
  • If you don't like my drumming, or don't want to continue, then that's totally fine and we can part ways as friends :-)

  • A 24 hour turnaround from your booked date
  • An mp3 bounce of your guide track with my drums bounced to hear the parts* (Download Sample Here)
  • A download link to some demo stems (a short snippet faded in and out) so you can hear how each recorded multi-track of the drums sounds* (Download Sample Here)
  • Unlimited revisions
  • 100% satisfaction guarantee

Once you're happy with the drum take for your music, I will invoice you, and upon payment, will send you a download link to your files which will include:

  • 16 Muti-tracked Drum Stems (what you came for!)
  • Channel List (to describe the positioning of each mic)
  • Stereo Mixdown (good for a quick way to lay down instruments without having to mix drums yourself)
  • Drum Chart (my drum scribblings for your song - mainly for posterity)

Student Discount (£100)

Same as the 'Full Resolution Stems' aside from:

  • 48 hour turnaround from booked date
  • MUST include proof of enrolment in your uploaded folder at time of booking
