The end of this week has put me in what seems like a constant state of inspiration! It feels incredible, has me grinning ear to ear and unable to stop looking like a fool! Ha!
On Thursday I was able to play ay the ToyBox (after, thankfully, being emotionally blackmailed by a certain Mr Ben Epstein). Ran by the ever awesome Richard Lobb, The Toybox is always a melting pot of brilliantly talented musicians, but this week just seemed to be full of one after the other of magical musical moments! Such an experience! And It really opened my ears! I’d urge everyone to come and check it out, always a good laugh!
Friday, I received my new road beauty from the wonderful Andy Anderson at The Drum Shop! A 1987 Yamaha 9000 Recording Custom in Deep Aqua that with the heartbreaking news of last week and in memory of I shall be naming Levon. My absolute hero. I know it’ll serve me well, just need to throw some new heads on, and he’ll be good to go!
My week was finished off with a drum clinic at the wonderful Orchard Studios in Colchester. Was my first time there, and its a wonderful place, such a great environment! The clinic was with 2 legends of groove Clem Cattini and Brian Bennett. They spent the clinic mainly talking about their experiences in the music industry and telling some great stories, stressing the importance of playing for the song and generally about groove. Something I can never hear enough in my life! It’s always so nice hearing those kind of words from such successful drummers and such nice people!
And speaking of nice people, the legend that is Yard (Drum Tech extrodinare for Steve Gadd, Zak Starkey, Steve Barney amongst many others) was also kicking about. Just had to get a pic with these 3 lovely lads:
My belly is so full of fire from the fuel this week has given me! On with getting back into my routine after a month on the road! I’m ready!
